Restaurant Cashier

A restaurant cashier handles sales transactions at various dining facilities. They typically work at the front of the restaurant, greeting customers walking in, answering any questions and promoting the restaurant's services. Since they regularly manage transactions, they should be responsible, courteous and great at math. Common responsibilities of a restaurant cashier include:

- Welcoming guests as they enter the restaurant
- Offering advice or recommendations to customers and answering any inquiries
- Operating the cash register, scanner, scale or the restaurant's computer system
- Ensuring correct meal prices, accepting payments and administering receipts to customers
- Resolving any pricing complaints and providing solutions or a positive customer service experience
- Processing any exchanges or refunds as requested
- Wrapping or bagging purchases, especially if customers purchase the restaurant's merchandise. Taking table reservations over the phone as well as in person.

Qualifications for Cashier
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- 1-2 years experience handling money and working as a cashier
- Ability to read and understand instructions
- Ability to add, substract, multiply, and divide easily and quickly
- Experience operating a cash register
- Proficient cashier and clerical skills
- Comfortable with cash handling
- Strong customer service skills
