Intern - Public Information (Hindi News) [temporary]

The internship is located in the Hindi Language Unit, UN News Section I of the News and Media Division, Department of Global Communications, which produces news and feature stories on multimedia platforms including radio, video, photo and web. This internship is for three (3) months with an opportunity for extension up to six (6) months, pending the needs of the department. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Hindi Unit, UN News Section I. It is designed to be an in-person internship.

**Responsibilities**:
The unit is seeking interns who wish to gain professional, hands-on experience, in particular working on enhancing the UN News app, specifically, versioning content for a mobile first experience, and modifying what is currently prepared for UN News platforms, incorporating online text, digital audio/video and social media. Our editorial agenda encompasses international issues such as development, human rights and climate change, and other UN priority areas.

The intern's duties will include:

- supporting news writing, multimedia, and audio/video production within the unit, including gathering information from diverse sources.
- assisting in researching and analyzing information on assigned topics/issues.
- helping to assess news value and other potential impact.
- using visual elements like charts, graphics, and maps, and data visualization tools to provide an accessible way to see and understand trends, outliers, and patterns in data.
- creating a database of existing partners by collaborating with the UN Partnerships Unit and seeking guidance from Unit Chiefs.
- performing research on content distribution channels by studying best industry practices and understanding the priorities and needs of our target audience.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New Delhi Headquarters Internship Programme, Department of Global Communications, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);

Work Experience

Languages
English or French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship advertised, fluency in both English and Hindi is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
