Business Innovation Advisor

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Business Innovation Advisor for the upcoming USAID Localization Support Activity in India. The Activity is likely to receive a budget of US$ 25 to US$ 49 million, over 5-10 years. USAID is committed to shifting more leadership, ownership, decision making, and implementation to the local people and institutions who possess the capability, connectedness, and credibility to drive change in their own countries and communities.
- This Activity aims to provide services to USAID and Government of India entities surge support, capacity building, and establishing systems and processes to effectively design, implement, and monitor activities that advance shared development objectives. Specifically, activities will cover:

- Capacity strengthening for Local Actors to apply, receive, and manage USAID awards
- Strengthen the Mission’s government-to-government (G2G) programming
- Support for the Mission to improve localization programming.
- The BIA should ideally have the below qualifications:

- At least 5 years (up to 10 years) of progressively supporting export related, inclusive, sustainable and climate resilient innovations from India
- A master degree in business, economics, industry, technology
- Experience of working with innovation start ups with a successful track record of supporting them to scale up and grow
- Deep understand of the start up ecosystem and challenges faced by them for growth, scale up, attracting finance and investment and regulatory compliance
- Previous work experience in other countries in the Global South which are relevant for importing innovation from India is preferred
- Experience of working with FCDO, USAID and similar other donors is desirable.
- Willingness to travel across India as required
- Excellent communication skills and report writing skills

**Job Profile**
- The BIA will be responsible for the following range of activities:

- Support small and medium enterprises and NGOs to target and transfer innovations sustainably.
- Support enterprises to make innovations more inclusive, climate resilient and transferrable to export markets.
- Research the demand side of innovation in new markets. Undertake research for business innovation, exporting business innovation from India to other markets.
- Identify bottlenecks in regulatory system of recipient countries to suggest reform of policies and regulatory frameworks for creating a more enabling ecosystem for innovation transfer across the target regions.
- Based on research, help innovators in getting to know new markets, their policies, tax and compliance issues.
- Identify players that can continually build the capacities of enterprises to start and sustain their operations in new countries.
- Commission research to help innovators understand their users, adapting innovations to the local context and setting prices of goods and services according to the payment capacity of the beneficiaries.
