Project Title
Multi-OMICS Analysis of Human Disease Transmitting Insect Vectors of Indian Subcontinent
Project Overview
This doctoral research project aims to conduct comprehensive multi-OMICS analysis of major disease-transmitting dipteran insect vectors prevalent in the Indian subcontinent, focusing on but not limited to mosquitoes, sandflies and others. The research will integrate genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics data to understand vector biology, host-pathogen interactions, and mechanisms of insecticide resistance.
Research Objectives
1. Generate and analyze high-quality multi-OMICS datasets from key insect vectors collected across different geographical regions of the Indian subcontinent
2. Investigate molecular mechanisms underlying vector competence and insecticide resistance
3. Identify novel molecular targets for vector control strategies
4. Develop an integrated pipeline for multi-OMICS data analysis specific to vector biology
Methodology
The project will employ cutting-edge technologies including:
1. Next-generation sequencing for genomic and transcriptomic analysis
2. LC-MS/MS for proteomics and metabolomics studies
3. Advanced bioinformatics tools for data integration and analysis
4. Functional validation using molecular biology techniques
Required Qualifications
2. Master's degree in Entomology, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or related fields
3. Strong background in molecular biology, entomology and genetics
4. Some experience in programming and statistical analysis
5. Some experience with NGS or proteomics data analysis and bioinformatics tools
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
7. Preference will be given to meritorious students
Desired Skills
1. Previous experience with insect vectors or parasitology
2. Knowledge of multi-OMICS data analysis
3. Experience in molecular biology laboratory techniques
Project Duration
3-4 years (full-time)
