Academic Counsellor

As an Academic Counsellor, you will be responsible for providing guidance and support to

students in an educational institution. Your role will involve understanding students' academic

goals, interests, and challenges, and providing personalized advice to help them make informed

decisions about their academic pursuits. You will work closely with students, faculty, and other

understanding of academic programs, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping

students achieve their educational goals.

**Responsibilities**:

- Conduct one-on-one academic counselling sessions with students to understand their

academic goals, interests, and challenges.
- Provide guidance and advice to students on course selection, program requirements,

and academic planning to ensure they are on track to meet their educational goals.
- Assist students in developing academic plans, creating schedules, and setting academic

targets, considering their strengths, weaknesses, and interests.
- Monitor and evaluate students' academic progress, including grades, attendance, and

performance, and identify areas for improvement or intervention.
- Provide support to students in resolving academic challenges, such as time

management, study skills, and academic motivation, and refer students to appropriate

resources, such as tutoring or academic support services.
- Stay updated with the institution's academic programs, policies, and procedures, and

communicate them effectively to students.
- Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and other stakeholders to address academic

concerns, provide feedback on student performance, and develop intervention strategies

for at-risk students.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions and academic plans in

the institution's systems or databases.
- Participate in orientation programs, academic workshops, and other student success

initiatives to promote student retention and success.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and research related to academic

advising, and continuously improve counseling skills through professional development

opportunities.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field, such as education, counselling,

psychology, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in academic advising or related student services role, preferably in

an educational institution.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with

students and build effective relationships.
- Strong understanding of academic programs, curriculum requirements, and academic

policies and procedures.
- Ability to assess students' needs, provide accurate information, and offer appropriate

advice and solutions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with students, faculty, and other

stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks

concurrently.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in a professional and

ethical manner.
- Familiarity with student information systems, advising tools, and technology used in

academic counselling.
- Knowledge of student development theories, learning styles, and academic success

strategies.
- Professional certifications in counselling, advising, or related fields are a plus.
