Solidaridad India is part of the global Solidaridad network, which has its Secretariat in the Netherlands and is a major international driver of sustainable and fair production and consumption practices in different agri-food sectors like Coffee, Tea, Cocoa, Fruit & Vegetables, Cotton, Textiles, Gold & Industrial Minerals, Soy, Palm Oil, Sugarcane, Livestock/ Leather, Dairy and Aquaculture including leather. Solidaridad has a network structure consisting of nine Regional Expertise Centres on five continents with advanced knowledge of all supply chain levels.

**Project brief**: The project “Effective waste management and sustainable development of the MSME tanning companies in the Kolkata Leather Cluster (Bantala)” is largely based on two aspects
- reduction of the effluent and solid waste levels and improve workers’ safety, and recycling or re-use of waste into useful value added products through process improvisation, introduction and adoption of eco-friendly technologies, solid waste management to reduce the environmental footprint of the Bantala tanneries. The adoption of green tanning practices is critical for the improvement of the public health situation of workers and people living near the Bantala leather cluster. The project will further enable the tanneries to meet the increasingly high international quality and environmental standards.

**Reporting**

The position will be reporting to Senior Programme Manager-Leather, Kolkata

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Program Implementation at the local level under supervision of Program Manager
- Support in implementation of Process Interventions in Tanneries at Bantala Leather Complex
- Responsible for establishing scalable pilot demonstrations that convert various solid waste generated from tanneries into value added products (waste to value) citing examples of circular economy
- Conduct capacity building/trainings/workshops on sustainability aspects within the cluster at regular intervals
- Key resource identification and mobilisation for training of trainers
- Assist in planning the execution of project activities in alignment to the monitoring plan/timeline/key indicators of the project.
- Regular coordination with the relevant industry stakeholders/ government departments.

**Qualifications and Competencies**:

- Bachelor’s degree in social work or similar with 2-3 years of relevant experience in development sector
- Strong problem solving, data analysis and project execution skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Basic level of English and Hindi (both writing and speaking) with a preferable understanding of Bengali
- Flexibility and creativity will be necessity for this position

**Salary and Benefits**
