A horizontal boring machine operator's responsibilities include:

- **Operating the machine**: Controlling a horizontal boring machine to drill, ream, or mill holes in materials like plastic or metal
- **Setting up the machine**: Selecting the correct tools, fixtures, and machine settings for each job
- **Maintaining the machine**: Performing preventative maintenance tasks and calibrating the machine
- **Ensuring quality**: Inspecting parts for quality and verifying that the machined work meets specifications
- **Following safety guidelines**: Adhering to all safety guidelines at the job site

Other responsibilities may include: De-burring castings, Maintaining efficiency records, Performing statistical testing to ensure the machine is to specifications, and Performing housekeeping tasks. A horizontal boring machine is a machine tool that bores holes in a horizontal direction. The most common type is the table type, also known as the universal type.
