
Road & Storm Water Drainage Expert

In consultation with the national Team Leader/ Deputy Team Leader, the national Climate and Disaster Resilience Expert and other Sector Experts, the consultant will be responsible for and contribute to the planning and designs of integrated industrial/ urban roads, pedestrian pathways/ footpaths, utility ducting, street lighting, other streetscape elements, etc., integrated with roadside storm water drainage and other climate resilient storm water management systems. Tasks of the consultant would be following, but not limited to:
- identify the road and storm water drainage infrastructure gaps, review of exclusionary screening/ prioritization of subprojects (including for any updation in investment plan and action plan, and any phasing of deliverables on iterative basis during PRF implementation), proof of concept/ site plans, development of key indicators, etc., prior to undertaking detailed engineering design stage of work (confirm availability of land with clear-title, site or right-of
- way/ ensure all no-objection and necessary clearances obtained for encumbrances free prioritized subproject sites available); and at the review stage, the subproject components should cover:
- support to strengthen/integrate any existing road and storm water DPRs or work components prepared separately by the government, as part of preparation of comprehensive DPRs; and
- industrial/ urban roads component [covering robust roads/ parking areas (considering outer access roads/ internal roads within industrial estates or areas, including non
- processing areas)based on respective passenger
- and freight-traffic/ load capacity movement] and storm water drainage system integrated with the roadside storm water drainage, water bodies, etc.; and recommend any changes/modifications for improvement, if required, while keeping in mind the feasibility of any possibilities/potential use for innovative and climate resilient interventions based on low-impact development that adopt natural filtration/green infrastructure principles compatible with natural
ecosystems/ bio-diversity such as, bio-swales, retention ponds, constructed wetlands
- Preferably a Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering/ Pavement Engineering/ Civil Engineering/Structural Engineering/ Environmental Engineering/ Public Health Engineering or equivalent; over a basic Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
Job Profile
- Preferably 12 years of general experience; and 10 years of specific experience as Road &Storm water Drainage Expert in undertaking planning and detailed engineering designs for integrated road and storm water drainage projects with proven experience in industrial/ urban roads, intersections/ junction improvements, streetscape elements, roadside or otherwise storm water infrastructure drains/networks’ designs, integration with retention ponds, etc.
Knowledge of climate resilient interventions, such as planning and design of based on low
- impact development that adopts natural filtration/green infrastructure principles compatible with natural ecosystems/ bio-diversity such as, bio-swales, retention ponds, constructed wetlands, etc., will be an added advantage. Work experience in planning and design, and implementation of external-aided/MDB projects in integrated industrial/ urban sectors is desirable.
