Job Description - Librarian

A Librarian is responsible for managing and organizing library resources, assisting users in locating information, and ensuring that the library functions as an effective information and learning hub. The role requires excellent organizational, research, and communication skills, along with knowledge of library management systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Collection Management

Acquire, organize, catalog, and classify books, journals, digital resources, and other materials.

Evaluate and select new resources to meet the needs of the institution or community.

Maintain and update library databases and inventory.

2. User Assistance

Help users locate books, references, and digital information.

Provide guidance on research methods, citation styles, and resource usage.

Conduct orientation sessions on library resources and facilities.

3. Library Operations

Manage day-to-day circulation (issuing, renewing, and returning books).

Maintain accurate records of borrowing, fines, and memberships.

Oversee library staff or volunteers, if applicable.

4. Digital & Technology Services

Manage electronic resources, e-books, online databases, and digital archives.

Use library management software (LMS/ILS) for cataloging and circulation.

Assist users with accessing online journals, digital content, and e-learning tools.

5. Information Management & Research

Support students, researchers, or employees in finding credible information.

Stay updated with new information sources and trends.

6. Administrative Duties

Develop and implement library policies and procedures.

Prepare budgets, reports, and usage statistics.

Organize workshops, events, and literacy programs.

7. Environment & Maintenance

Ensure the library is a quiet, organized, and user-friendly environment.

Maintain systems for archiving and preservation of materials.

Skills & Competencies Required

Strong organizational and cataloging skills

Excellent research and reference skills

Familiarity with digital libraries, databases, and library software

Communication and customer service skills

Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities

Pay: ₹14,835.16 - ₹34,903.23 per month
