Researcher - Simulation & Serious Games

Therefore, making good decisions is key to remain strong in the energy transition. Moreover, making good decisions in an uncertain and volatile world requires insight in how uncertainties and variations may influence the eventual outcomes.

Our teams’ task is to use discrete event simulation, agent based modelling and serious games to create these insights. As a member of the Decision Science Team, you will be working side-by-side with Shell colleagues across the organisation to provide decision support both in capital projects and in New Energies.

**What’s the role?**

As the Discrete Event Simulation Scientist, you will focus on providing decision support to various parties inside of Shell. You will be involved in the entire chain from clarifying the request, to making a conceptual model, to deciding on the best solution methodology, to implementation unto final presentation of results.

In this role, you will be involved in projects ranging from products to biofuels to hydrogen to CCS (carbon capture and storage) and learn about these along the way.

Your further responsibilities include:

- Analysing problem descriptions.
- Building (DES or ABM) models.
- Generating results.
- Converting these results into meaningful information for your internal customer.

The team has a strong R&D component to which you will also contribute.

**What we need from you?**
- At least Master’s degree, or PhD in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Quantitative Economics, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years working experience.
- Ability to translate situational sketch into models and translate /visualize the results into information for the customer.
- Strong conceptual thinking.
- Programming experience, preferably Python.
- Proactive personality.
- Ability to work independently and in natural teams.
- Strong stakeholder management.

Knowledge or experience with Discrete Event Simulation, ABM (agent-based modelling), Serious games or Behavioural economics is considered a bonus, but is not a pre-requisite.
