ABOUT SNEHA
A secular, Mumbai-based non-profit organisation, SNEHA believes that investing in women's health is
essential to building viable urban communities. SNEHA targets four large public health areas: Maternal and
Newborn Health, Child Health and Nutrition, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Prevention of Violence
against Women and Children.

Our approach is two-pronged: it recognises that in order to improve urban health standards, our initiatives
must target both care seekers and care providers. We work at the community level to empower women and
slum communities to be catalysts of change in their own right and collaborate with existing public health
systems and health care providers to create sustainable improvements in urban health.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Public System Partnership Program partners with seven municipal corporations namely Mumbai, Thane,

Kalyan Dombivali, MiraBhayander, Vasai Virar, Bhiwandi Nizampur and Ulhas Nagar covering Mumbai

Metropolitan Region and three municipal councils namely Ambernath, Badlapur and Palghar. The main

purpose is to impact Maternal and Child health indicators in urban slums.

Public System Partnership Program and SNEHA have partnered in initiating and sustaining a formal referral

system for mothers and newborns and focusing on improving the status of maternal and neonatal health

services. Along with the system strengthening component, community mobilization was also given high

priority. With the purpose of improving community participation Community Health Committees were

formed in the vulnerable locations and efforts were made to convert these group into MAS.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The role of Community Organizer will be as follows.
- Visiting project areas and build rapport with the health facility staff and the community

volunteers/ASHAs.
- Observation of Antenatal and postnatal care OPDs at the PHC and hospitals for further intervention
- Conducting regular health talks, Exhibitions at the PHCs and hospitals.
- Observation of service provision at the PHCs and advocacy with the PHC staff for better service

provision based on the observations and feedback received from the beneficiaries/ community.
- Building rapport and supporting ASHA workers for formation of MAS and facilitation of MAS

meetings.
- Supporting ASHA workers for conducting regular meetings and trainings with Mahila Arogya Samitis

where available and building capacities for formation of new MAS groups
- Supporting ASHA workers to visit reluctant cases and counselling to access the services
- Identification of key partners, stakeholders, CBOs, NGOs and Service Providers in the area; for further

collaboration.
- Conducting meetings and documenting processes.
- Supporting Progra Officer in arranging trainings and meetings with the health facility staff.
- Supporting PO with capacity building of ASHA workers
- Planning and participating actively in the community/ Health post events/PHC
- Conduct health talks to do the awareness on ANC/ PNC, Immunization, Family planning, nutrition

etc.
- Conduct Monthly meetings and arrange quarterly training with MAS group
- Building capacities of ASHA workers for error free and timely documentation, community

mobilization, facilitation skills etc.
- Other duties as assigned by the community project coordinator and project officer.
- Attending monthly, weekly team meetings and actively participation in the discussions
- Attending monthly meetings in centre office, training, workshops as and when planned
- Sharing work experiences in the team meetings, common meetings for further learnings of the

colleagues

PLANNING AND REPORTING
- Preparing monthly, weekly and daily plans for the implementation and share with PO in

advance
- Report daily to program Officer on work done and accomplishments
- Daily filling of CommCare forms on the activities completed
- Ensure error free data entry and submission
- Documentation of case stories from the field on monthly basis and submission to the PO

following the deadline

PERSON SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Essential

Education to at least 12th pass
Experience working in the community and public system
Flexibility to travel to the health facilities in the three municipal councils and other corporations.
Excellent skills of interpersonal communication, convincing skills, rapport building.
Fluency in Hindi and Marathi.
Self-starting and self-monitoring abilities.
Flexibility in time management.
Ability to work in the team

Ability to work with patience, motivation,persistance efforts

Desirable

Familiarity with services provided of health facilities
Experience in community mobilization.
Negotiation skills,
