**VAC3520 - Dementia Support Worker - Somerset**:
Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

**About the role**

The role is Community Based and predominantly working from home, you will be responding to enquiries from people affected by dementia over the phone and in person if required, also delivering group services out in the community.

The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Support service involves dedicated members of staff giving information, and guidance to people with dementia or their carers and wider family or friends, to help people understand dementia, develop coping strategies to learn to live well with dementia and prepare for the future. As part of your role you will also coordinate, organise, and facilitate the safe running of group services aimed to inform, educate, and support those affected by dementia, such as Singing for the Brain and Memory Cafes.

This role will require you to build relationships with a range of local contacts. You will network with health and care professionals, marketing Alzheimer’s Society services to help people with a diagnosis to get referred to the service as early as possible. As well as developing networks with partner organisations to promote the aim of empowering individuals living with dementia to make informed choices.

**About you**
We are looking for an individual with an understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers. Your ability to assess client information needs along with the understanding of the need for client confidentially is essential to providing a valuable and worthwhile service.

To be successful in this role you will have excellent non-judgmental communication skills as well as strong organisational skills. It is desirable that you understand what is needed to coordinate volunteers at group services. You will also be committed to putting people affected by dementia at the heart of everything we do, to make the service our best it can be. You will be speaking to people at all levels across the area so great networking and influencing skills are essential. You should have good IT skills and be able to travel independently.
