About the position
The Department of Preclinical Sciences and Pathology (Unit of Anatomy), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant 3-year PhD-position related to the aetiology of melanized focal changes in farmed Atlantic salmon.
The project is part of a collaboration with the Faculty of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science at NMBU and with the Anatomy Department, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zurich.
Melanized focal changes are the most common quality deviations in fillets of farmed Atlantic salmon, resulting in significant economic losses each year. Recent research has highlighted adipose tissue necrosis as a key component of the pathogenesis, possibly linking the onset of the condition to the fat content in the diet and, subsequently, the fillet.
Main tasks
Plan and execute a field-trial in collaboration with project partners.
Perform laboratory work using morphological, molecular and lipid analyses.
Share results with industry partners and the aquaculture industry in various forums.
Competence
The successful applicant must meet the conditions defined for admission to a PhD programme at NMBU. The applicant must have an academically relevant education corresponding to a cand.med.vet. degree, with a learning outcome corresponding to the descriptions in the Norwegian Qualification Framework, second cycle. The applicant must have a documented strong academic background relevant to the position and be able to document proficiency in both written and oral English. Required qualifications
Veterinary degree with Norwegian authorization at the time of employment
Be proficient in English, both written and spoken.
Be amenable to travel both nationally and internationally
Possess a driver’s licence (personbil klasse B).

Remuneration and further information
The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1017 PhD Fellow NOK 536.200 - 630.000. PhD. Fellows will normally have a starting salary of NOK 536.200. The position follows ordinary meriting regulations
Employment is conducted according to national guidelines for University and Technical College PhD scholars.

About the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at NMBU is the country's only veterinary professional education and provide expertise in veterinary medicine and veterinary public health. The Faculty educates veterinarians, animal nurses and doctoral students in Veterinary Science and researches in veterinary medicine and related biomedical fields. We have 500 students and 430 employees.
The faculty consists of the departments of Preclinical Sciences and Pathology, Paraclinical Sciences, Production Animal Clinical Sciences and Companion Animal Clinical Sciences. We also run the Anima
