The Finance Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hotel, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, and maintaining compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This position manages the budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and internal controls within the hotel.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Financial Management**:
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of the hotel’s monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with established accounting principles (e.g., GAAP, IFRS).
- Oversee the reconciliation of financial accounts, including bank, accounts payable/receivable, and other key ledger accounts.
- **Budgeting and Forecasting**:
- Develop, implement, and monitor the hotel's annual budget, including revenue projections, cost control measures, and capital expenditures.
- Provide regular financial forecasts and ensure the hotel is on track to meet or exceed financial targets.
- Review and advise on cost-saving opportunities and potential revenue-generating activities.
- **Internal Controls & Compliance**:
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard the hotel’s assets, prevent fraud, and ensure proper financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial and tax regulations, hotel industry standards, and corporate policies.
- Assist with audits (internal and external), ensuring all documentation and records are up-to-date and accurate.
- **Financial Analysis & Reporting**:
- Analyze financial data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the hotel's financial performance.
- Prepare regular management reports that detail financial performance, highlighting variances, trends, and actionable insights.
- Provide financial support to management by offering advice on profitability, cost management, and capital expenditure decisions.
- **Staff Management & Development**:
- Supervise and lead the finance team, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and in line with deadlines.
- Mentor and develop staff, fostering a positive work environment, and ensuring high standards of financial knowledge and skill.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide training on financial systems and best practices.
- **Cash Flow Management**:
- Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring that the hotel has sufficient liquidity for daily operations.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Ensure effective management of hotel debt and financial obligations.
- **Financial Strategy and Planning**:
- Contribute to the development of the hotel’s strategic plan by providing financial insights and forecasting future growth.
- Work closely with the General Manager and other department heads to develop and implement long-term financial strategies.
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- **Education**: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA) is preferred.
- **Experience**: Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance or accounting, preferably within the hospitality industry.
- **Technical Skills**:
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with hotel property management systems (PMS) and financial software.
- **Analytical Skills**: Strong ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
- **Attention to Detail**: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial analysis and reporting.
- **Communication Skills**: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in an accessible manner to non-financial stakeholders.
- **Leadership Skills**: Experience managing a finance team, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- **Problem-Solving Skills**: Ability to address financial challenges and identify solutions to optimize hotel financial performance.
**Working Conditions**:
- Full-time position, typically requiring 40 hours per week.
- May require evening or weekend work during financial reporting periods or special events.
- The position is based in an office environment within the hotel, with occasional travel to related business locations or meetings.
**Compensation**:
- Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
