Tool & Die Maker
**1. Die Design and Fabrication**:Design and fabricate precision dies and molds used for shaping technical ceramics (e.g., via pressing, extrusion, or injection molding).Work from technical drawings, CAD models, or specifications provided by engineering.
**2. Tool and Die Maintenance**:Inspect, repair, and maintain existing dies to ensure dimensional accuracy and functionality.Perform routine maintenance to extend die life and reduce downtime.
**3. Precision Machining**:Operate CNC machines, lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs, and other precision tools to create complex die components.Work with tight tolerances required for high-performance ceramic components.
**4. Material Knowledge**:Select appropriate die materials (e.g., hardened steels, tungsten carbide) to withstand the abrasive and high-pressure conditions typical in ceramic processing.Understand the behavior of ceramic powders and their effects on die wear and tolerances.
**5. Process Support**:Collaborate with process engineers to optimize die designs for manufacturability and product performance.Provide feedback on die performance and suggest improvements based on production results.
**6. Quality Assurance**:Ensure all dies meet strict quality and dimensional specifications.Conduct inspections using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and CMMs.
**7. Documentation and Records**:Maintain accurate records of die drawings, modifications, usage history, and maintenance logs.Update documentation when design changes or repairs are made.
**8. Problem Solving**:Troubleshoot defects in molded or pressed ceramic parts that may stem from die issues.Suggest corrective actions to resolve dimensional or surface finish issues.
**9. Tool Room Safety and Cleanliness**:Follow all safety protocols in the tool room.Keep work areas organized and maintain equipment in good condition.
**10. Continuous Improvement**:Participate in continuous improvement programs (e.g., lean manufacturing, Six Sigma). Suggest improvements to die design or manufacturing methods to enhance product quality or reduce costs.
