The Vice Chancellor of Ahmedabad University in India is seeking to appoint an Associate Dean, Arts in the School of Arts and Sciences. Ahmedabad University, a private non-profit institution, is one of India’s most exciting and serious academic centres to be established in the last couple of decades. Located in the urban centre of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Ahmedabad University is a research university that is premised on liberal education with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and project-based learning. It is fast emerging as a research institution that matters and has been recognized as a Centre of Excellence by the Government of Gujarat. We are reimagining a university in the global academy and within subcontinental traditions of knowledge to act as a bridge between the arts, the sciences and the professions.
The School of Arts and Sciences was started in 2017 and offers BA (Honours) degrees with Majors in History; Philosophy, History and Languages; Psychology; and Social and Political Sciences. It also has an interdisciplinary PhD programme in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and will soon launch a degree in Integrated Arts within the Performing and Visual Arts.
The position of Associate Dean, Arts offers a unique opportunity to build and develop the School of Arts and Sciences and to engage with the wider society. The Associate Dean, Arts will oversee the activities of the divisions of Humanities and Languages, Social Sciences, and Performing and Visual Arts.
This position would suit a senior or mid-career scholar with a background in the Arts or Humanities or Social Sciences, and would be accompanied by an appointment as Associate Professor or Professor. Ahmedabad University is searching for an innovative, creative and dynamic leader, who wishes to join an eclectic group of 175 full-time faculty from around the world and a community of over 3500 students.
