Responsibilities
- Technicians require customer service and communication skills, since they will be working in varied places
- of business with machines owned by different people. **Mathematics up through calculus and proficiency with tools is also needed. The position requires significant arm, hand and finger dexterity, coordination, near vision and control precision. Critical thinking, operations monitoring, and decision making are also important skills.**
- Because of the mathematical and electronic knowledge needed to do the job, it is important that **arcade game technicians have at least a trade school education in these areas. Education in the field is usually more general than working with arcade games. An electronic equipment technology program also trains students to work on vending machines, automated teller machines and slot machines, although students may specialize before completing such a program.**
- Key to working in this field is an understanding of the workings of the microprocessor, including decimal, binary and hexadecimal conversions. **Technicians must also understand the communication of input and output, reset procedures and the use of troubleshooting and malfunction codes.**

Arcade game technicians are responsible for the installation and maintenance of arcade games, and this requires performing repairs on the machines when needed. Certificate programs in electronic equipment technology will help them become familiar with the various electrical parts, meters and soldering irons they'll need to know. The projected decline in jobs, as reported by the BLS, should be taken into account when considering employment in this field.

**Requirements**:

- Must have a degree or certification in computer science or a related field.
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment.

**Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with game developers and designers.**
- Familiarity with gaming industry trends and technologies.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate technical issues to non-technical team members.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions and specifications.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends and evenings, to support game operations and maintenance.
