IRRI, in collaboration with CIMMYT, IWMI and Bioversity, is implementing the Work Package 2 (WP2) on bridging the (gender) digital divide in the new OneCGIAR initiative on ‘Harnessing Digital Technologies for decision-making across food, land and water systems’ in India, with a focus on Odisha and Telangana.
WP2 will develop a suite of tools and guidelines to track digital inclusion and present options to strengthen the empowerment and resilience of marginalized women and girls. The Digital Inclusion Index for Food, Water, and Land Systems and a set of Best Practices for Digital Gender Equity will be developed and promoted based on user-centered design and a socio-technical understanding of gendered norms, barriers, and opportunities for change. Training programs targeting first-time female users from marginalized communities will be conducted. Existing digital services will be enhanced towards gender-transformative outcomes addressing key gaps within their solutions, while strengthening their business models.
This position will support the IRRI gender research leader, the cross-CG work package and initiative teams in implementing the activities and producing and communicating research outputs.
**Roles and Responsibilities**:
- Lead the distilling of the evidence base on best-fit practices for promoting digital gender equity
- Contribute to development of a Digital Inclusivity Index
- Contribute to developing and implementing strategies for enhancing digital skills of women and youth
- Lead assessment of gender-responsiveness of digital extension apps
- Deliver outputs and outcomes aligned with IRRI vision, mission, values, target goals, policies and procedures
- Establish collaboration with research and academic partners; this includes troubleshooting whenever issues arise from the projects
- Develop and sustain partnerships and coordinate with other CG centers for joint advocacy and knowledge generation and sharing on digital equity
- Align with IRRI and Initiative Leaders and Research Support to assure synergies in the work
- Monitor the of progress of the research projects, including the review of draft operational reports and research performed ensuring quality of outputs at all times
- Write and consolidate scientific achievements into fit-for-purpose communications materials in collaboration with the Initiative and IRRI communications teams
- Develop technical reports
- Publish and actively contribute to articles in peer-reviewed journals/digests that highlight findings from the initiative and IRRI activities showcasing the scientific leadership
- Represent OneCGIAR and IRRI to a wide audience by presenting at international conferences/meetings
**Qualifications**:
- PhD in Rural Sociology, Gender Studies, Anthropology, Feminist Economics, Development Economics, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, Institutional Economics, Geography or related field
**Skills Required**:
**Mandatory**
- Deep and sound grounding in theoretical and analytical frameworks and concepts of gender and social equity
- Excellent Written and Oral communication skills in English
- Strong quantitative and/or qualitative analytical skills, with keen interest in and experience with mixed methods
- Evidence of scientific publications in international journals
- Evidence of high quality communication products for different audiences
- Experience of working with R&D partners nationally and globally
- Experience with R4D project management, including planning, physical and financial implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting
- Sound interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team

- Experience working on Gender R4D in Asia
