A News Editor is responsible for managing the news content of a media outlet, ensuring that it is accurate, engaging, and meets the organization's editorial standards. This role involves editorial decision-making, story selection, and coordination with reporters and journalists to deliver timely and relevant news to the audience.
- A bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, or a related field is typically required. A master's degree may be preferred.
*Exceptional command of the English language, writing and style, and journalistic writing techniques.
*Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple stories with tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Develop and implement editorial strategies to align with the channel’s goals and target audience.
- Plan and organise coverage of events, news stories, and features.
- Assign stories to reporters, writers, and journalists based on their expertise and the editorial agenda.
- Coordinate with reporters to ensure coverage of important events and topics.
- Edit and proofread articles, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to the channel’s style guidelines.
- Provide constructive feedback to writers to improve the quality of their work.
- Craft engaging and compelling headlines and captions that accurately represent the content.
- Ensure that headlines are attention-grabbing and align with the publication's tone.
- Verify the accuracy of information presented in news stories to maintain the organisation’s credibility.
- Cross-check facts, statistics, and quotes with reliable sources.
- Work closely with videographers, graphic designers, and other departments to enhance the visual presentation of news content.
- Share news stories and updates on social media platforms.
- Monitor social media for breaking news and engage with the audience.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and share knowledge with the team.
