**JOB PURPOSE**

The Development Editor (K-12) reviews and assesses projects for pedagogical value, organizational structure, identification of third party content, costs, formatting/layout and design specifics, and is responsible for confirming and ensuring that the needs of the customer are clearly communicated to the various departments. The Editor is responsible for manuscript and TOC review/development and for ensuring its adherence to specifications, standards, and content requirements.

**Position Description**:
**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Working knowledge of industry standard development and/or production processes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organization, time management, prioritization, and planning skills.
- Ability to manager external vendors and freelancers effectively.
- Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with accuracy, composure and adaptability.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly.
- Strong computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, skills in Acrobat Pro are a plus.
- Analytical and pragmatic problem solving abilities and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with moderate supervision.
- K-12 content knowledge with a focus in Social Studies.
- Prior experience in publishing—editing, organizing reviews and developing textbooks—will be an added advantage.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY**:

- Shaping manuscripts into innovative, attractive and student-friendly content, both print and digital, by understanding and facilitating a student’s needs, an author’s goals and an instructor’s requirements.
- Working on multiple projects, liaising with authors/freelancers and maintaining schedules to meet publishing deadlines.
- Ensuring that the final product is of the highest possible quality within the constraints of time and budget.
- Helping design course and market-oriented learning solutions.
- Supporting the sales and marketing teams during promotions by undertaking editorial travel.
- Making sure that the production process runs smoothly, and that publications are printed on time.
- Recruiting staff commissioning work from freelance writers and photographers.
- Liaising with the advertising and production departments.
