A pharmacist's job is to store, prepare, and dispense medications, and to educate patients and other healthcare professionals on how to use them safely and effectively:

- **Fill prescriptions**: Pharmacists fill prescriptions based on a physician's instructions, and check for allergies, medical conditions, and other drugs the patient is taking.
- **Educate patients**: Pharmacists instruct patients on how to take their medication, its side effects, and how to store it. They also advise patients on general health topics, like exercise and stress management.
- **Administer vaccinations**: Pharmacists may administer vaccinations, such as the flu shot.
- **Monitor drug therapies**: Pharmacists monitor patients' drug therapies to avoid interactions with other medications.
- **Maintain records**: Pharmacists maintain patient and pharmacy records.
- **Supervise staff**: Pharmacists may supervise the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in training.
- **Work with insurance companies**: Pharmacists may work with insurance companies to resolve billing issues.
- **Ensure quality control**: Pharmacists perform routine quality control testing of equipment, environment, and record keeping.
- **Follow regulations**: Pharmacists follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, as well as safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

Pharmacists can work in a variety of settings, including drug stores, grocery stores, big box stores, private pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Their work schedule can vary depending on the setting, but is typically within the typical business hours of 9 am to 6 pm.
