The position seats in the Projects & Technology Organization (P & T) of Shell. P & T is projects execution and technology engine of Shell to help Shell achieve our aspiration of becoming the world's most innovative and competitive energy company. Shell was the first of the IOCs to bring together its projects and technology capabilities into one focused delivery organisation. P&T's staff and hundreds of thousands of contractors work in partnership with Shell's Upstream, Integrated Gas and Downstream businesses to generate value for shareholders and commercial partners.

Incumbent would be part of Distillation R&D and Light ends team which fits within downstream technology organization of P&T. The Distillation R&D and Light ends team provides technical support to Shell and 3rd parties in the area of Light Ends (Reforming, Alkylation & Isomerization) and Distillation & Phase separation. In addition to technical support to sites, R&D, gatekeeping, upkeep of design tools and knowledge upkeep form a significant part of the workload.

**What’s the role?**

Shell and 3rd party Light Ends support include trouble shooting technical issues at sites, unit performance monitoring, support to regeneration and turnaround activities, cycle length projections, catalyst selection and testing, co-processing biofuels, etc.

Distillation R&D is focused on developing improved hardware solutions for gas processing, distillation and phase separation which are applied across Refining, Chemicals and Integrated Gas processes. Distillation and separation R&D work involves experimental work in large scale pilot plants owned by Shell as well as through external collaboration e.g., with Sulzer in Switzerland and FRI in USA. The distillation R&D also involves efforts to develop improved (e.g., energy efficient) process line-up.

Distillation R&D and Light ends team is also the developer and custodian of process engineering tools in both Distillation and Light Ends area.

Incumbent shall be part of the Primary Process team (GMship) in in Chemicals, DS processes & Biotechnology organization within P&T. Incumbent shall report to Team Lead - Distillation R&D and Light Ends.

Incumbent is expected work in both Distillation and Light End areas. However, balancing of overall workload would be ensured. Accountabilities include:
Light Ends:

- Technical and operation support to Shell sites and third parties in Reforming, Alkylation and Isomerization
- Pre-DG 3 project support
- Catalysts & Adsorbent Evaluation
- Custodian of process engineering tools in Reforming, Alkylation and Isomerization - responsible for developing and upkeep of process engineering tools

Distillation:

- Define and design internals for testing in test column
- Follow up execution of the Distillation R&D program
- Supervision of experiments and interpretation of results thereof
- Creation/maintenance of data base based on internal and external experimental results
- Support installation of column and separator internals at sites (e.g., Shell Turbo Trays, conventional and HiFi trays, auxiliary equipment, swirl decks, etc)
- Custodian of column design tool (Pro2col) and vessel design tool (Vessel Design Tool). Incorporates new developments into the tool (e.g., design/revamp of columns with Shell Turbo trays) and updates design rules based on experimental results

**What we need from you**
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with minimum 7 years of manufacturing/technology experience (in Refining, Chemicals and/or Integrated Gas) and minimum 4 years of experience in Reforming and/or column hydraulics. Experience in Alkylation and/or Isomerization would be added advantage
- Past experience in developing, managing or maintaining process engineering tool would be an added advantage
- Ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders including various representatives from Shell Manufacturing, P&T, third-party customers, etc.
