**Job roles and responsibilities of a Student Counsellor**:
Primary Responsibilities

1. Counselling Sessions: Conduct individual and group counselling sessions with students to address their academic, personal, and social concerns.

2. Student Assessment: Assess students' needs, strengths, and weaknesses to develop personalized counselling plans.

3. Academic Advising: Provide academic advising to help students choose courses, plan their academic path, and achieve their educational goals.

4. Career Guidance: Offer career guidance and support to help students explore their career options and develop a career plan.

5. Referral Services: Refer students to external resources, such as mental health services, academic support services, or community organizations.

Secondary Responsibilities

1. Workshop Facilitation: Facilitate workshops and group sessions on topics such as study skills, time management, and stress management.

2. Parent and Teacher Communication: Communicate with parents and teachers to provide updates on students' progress and to collaborate on supporting students' needs.

3. Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and support to students in emergency situations, such as mental health crises or personal emergencies.

4. Program Development: Develop and implement programs and services to support students' academic and personal success.

5. Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze data on student outcomes and program effectiveness to inform counselling practices and program development.

Skills and Qualities

1. Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.

2. Empathy and Understanding: Ability to empathize with students' concerns and challenges, and to provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

3. Cultural Competence: Ability to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, and to provide culturally sensitive counselling services.

4. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

5. Knowledge of Counselling Theories and Practices: Familiarity with counselling theories and practices, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and trauma-informed care.
