An Automotive Service Technician performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses problems and repairs vehicle systems in cars and light trucks. Specifically, an Automotive Service Technician diagnoses and repairs: engines, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, differentials, brakes, drive shafts, axles and other assemblies.

Service technicians may work on vehicles, heavy machinery and home appliances or in many other areas where complex hardware needs to be maintained or fixed. Their responsibilities include diagnostic review, repair and replacement of parts as well as the replacement and installation of equipment.

Maintains vehicles' functional condition by listening to operator complaints and conducting inspections. Repairs mechanical and electrical system malfunctions and replaces parts and components. Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls, and updating systems.

A technician has specialised knowledge and skills and is primarily responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of systems, machines and equipment while following the relevant safety measures. Technicians often work with other specialists, such as electricians, engineers and computer scientists.

Repair brake and steering systems. Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems. Replace or repair transmissions and fuel components as needed. Repair cooling components and systems including air conditioners and engine cooling
