Student Counselor

**Key Responsibilities**:
- Assist students in course selection, academic planning, and program completion.
- Advise students on academic policies, graduation requirements, and academic progress.
- Help students set academic goals and create personalized strategies for success.
- Provide guidance on study skills, time management, and effective learning techniques.
- Help students understand grading systems, prerequisites, and degree requirements.
- Provide individual counseling for students dealing with academic challenges, stress, anxiety, or personal difficulties.
- Offer emotional support, encourage self-awareness, and help students manage academic pressures.
- Identify students at risk of academic failure and recommend interventions or support services.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals to provide holistic support for students’ well-being
- Assist students in resolving conflicts related to academic issues, peer relationships, or faculty-student interactions.
- Mediate discussions between students, faculty, and staff to resolve academic disputes.
- Organize and conduct workshops on topics such as study skills, time management, stress management, and academic success strategies.
- Develop and deliver programs to support students’ academic and personal development.
- Work closely with faculty and academic departments to ensure students receive appropriate academic support.
- Collaborate with other campus services, including tutoring centers, libraries, and career services, to support students' academic needs.
- Act as a liaison between students, parents, and academic staff to facilitate communication and ensure student success.
- Track the academic progress of students under counseling and report on any patterns, concerns, or needs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
- Provide reports and assessments on the effectiveness of counseling services and student outcomes.
- Provide initial counseling support in crisis situations, such as personal emergencies or mental health crises.
- Refer students to appropriate mental health professionals when needed.
**Qualifications**:
- **Education**:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Master's degree in Counseling, Education, or Psychology preferred.
- **Experience**:
- Previous experience in academic advising, student counseling, or educational support services is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse student populations in a higher education setting is an asset.
**Skills**:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and empathy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust with students.
- Knowledge of academic systems, course requirements, and student development.
- Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Familiarity with student support services and mental health resources.
