Position Overview:
An academic counselor plays a crucial role in providing guidance and support to students in academic matters, career planning, and personal development. They assist students in identifying their strengths, interests, and goals, and help them navigate through educational challenges to achieve academic success.

**Responsibilities**:

- Conducting one-on-one counseling sessions with students to discuss academic goals, progress, and challenges.
- Assessing students' interests, aptitudes, and academic strengths to provide personalized guidance.
- Assisting students in developing academic plans, course selections, and career pathways based on their aspirations and abilities.
- Providing information and resources on educational programs, majors, minors, and extracurricular activities.
- Offering support and guidance to students experiencing academic difficulties, including study skills, time management, and stress management techniques.
- Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to address student academic needs and concerns.
- Facilitating workshops or seminars on study skills, college admissions, career exploration, and other relevant topics.
- Administering and interpreting standardized assessments or aptitude tests to help students make informed decisions.
- Keeping accurate records of counseling sessions, student progress, and interventions.
- Staying updated on educational trends, policies, and resources to provide current and relevant guidance.
- Referring students to appropriate support services, such as tutoring, counseling, or special education programs, when needed.
- Participating in professional development activities and training to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.
- Adhering to ethical guidelines and confidentiality standards in handling student information.
- Collaborating with colleagues to develop and implement comprehensive counseling programs that support student success.
- Contributing to the overall mission and goals of the educational institution through active participation in committees, events, and initiatives.

**Requirements**:

- Master's degree in counseling, education, psychology, or a related field.
- State licensure or certification as a school counselor (if applicable).
- Previous experience in academic counseling, student advising, or related roles preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine interest in helping students succeed.
- Ability to build rapport and establish trust with diverse student populations.
- Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and ethical standards.
- Familiarity with educational systems, college admissions processes, and career development resources.
- Proficiency in using technology for counseling purposes, such as student information systems and career assessment tools.
- Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of students and the educational environment.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining student records and documentation.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
