Institute of Bioinformatics in Bangalore, Manipal, the Institute of Bioinformatics has established a Physician Scientist Training Program with the specific mandate of training physicians in the basic biomedical sciences. We are offering Ph.D. positions to physicians with MBBS or advanced medical degrees who are interested in pursuing basic research. This is for full-time research and will generally require 3 years.
This is an exciting opportunity for physicians to obtain excellent training in state-of-the-art techniques in molecular biology and interdisciplinary sciences that will include the use of genomics, proteomics and computational biology platforms to pursue questions to study a broad variety of human diseases with special emphasis on cancer biology, neurological disorders, infectious diseases and inherited genetic disorders.
The Ph.D. thesis work for the selected physicians will be tailored to suit their academic background and research interests and will be carried out at the Institute of Bioinformatics. There are excellent opportunities to interface with clinicians at a number of hospitals and academic medical centers that have ongoing collaborations with the Institute of Bioinformatics including Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bangalore, National Institute of Mental Health and NeuroSciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore and Kasturba Medical College in Manipal. The Ph.D. degree for this unique program will be awarded by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal.
**Required Qualifications**:
- MBBS alone or with specialty training (e.g. DNB, MD degrees)
- Strong interest in pursuing basic research
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
