**Key Responsibilities of librarian**

1. Curate, organize, and maintain an extensive and diverse library collection, including books, journals, digital resources, and multimedia materials to cater to the educational and recreational needs of students and staff.

2. Provide research and reference support, guiding students and staff to access and utilize information resources effectively.

3. Manage the cataloging and classification of library materials using standard systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal Classification) for easy access and organization.

4. Oversee day-to-day library operations, including book circulation, inventory audits, and facility upkeep, ensuring an organized and welcoming environment.

5. Develop and deliver programs to enhance critical thinking, research skills, and digital literacy among students and staff.

6. Be prepared with the necessary books, classroom set up, teaching - learning materials before the class each day.

7. Encourage a culture of reading by recommending books, organizing reading challenges, and leading book clubs and storytelling sessions.

8. Administer and promote access to digital resources, including e-books, online databases, and educational software.

9. Plan and coordinate author visits, literacy drives, and other library-focused events to foster a love for reading and learning.

10. Contribute to library budget planning and manage the acquisition of books, periodicals, and digital resources to ensure a well-rounded collection.

**Educational Qualifications**

1. A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Library Science (MLISc or BLISc) from a recognized institution.

2. A Diploma in Computer Applications or certification in library automation is preferred.

**Essential Skills**

1. Proficiency in library management systems and software.

2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, teachers, and parents effectively.

3. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

4. Basic proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with educational and library software.

5. Analytical skills for resource planning, problem-solving, and library management.

**Desirable Qualifications**

1. Prior experience working in a school library or similar educational institution.

2. Familiarity with digital libraries, open educational resources, and emerging educational technologies.

3. An understanding of child and adolescent reading habits and interests.

**Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)**

1. Quality and relevance of the library collection in supporting the school curriculum.

2. Active participation of students in library activities and events.

3. Effectiveness of information literacy and research skills programs.

4. Feedback from teachers on library support and resources.

5. Library’s measurable contribution to student learning outcomes and overall academic achievements.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- M.Lib.Sc. or B.Lib.Sc.
