**Responsibilities**:
**1. Patient Preparation**
- **Review patient history** to check for any medical conditions, allergies, or contraindications (e.g., pacemakers for MRI or kidney problems for contrast in CT).
- **Explain the procedure** to patients, addressing any concerns and ensuring they are comfortable with the process.
- **Prepare the patient for the scan**, which may involve changing into a hospital gown, removing jewelry or other items, and positioning them appropriately for imaging.
2. **Operating CT and MRI Equipment**
- **Operate CT scanners** to create detailed cross-sectional images using X-rays and **MRI scanners** to generate detailed images using magnetic fields and radio waves.
- **Select appropriate imaging settings** based on the patient's needs and the type of scan required (e.g., contrast settings, slice thickness, field strength).
- **Monitor patients during the scan**, ensuring they remain still to produce clear images, and adjust equipment as needed for the best results.
3. **Image Quality Control**
- **Ensure high-quality imaging** by selecting the correct technical parameters (e.g., exposure, contrast agents, image resolution) to capture the necessary diagnostic images.
- **Review images** to confirm they are clear and meet the required standards. If necessary, make adjustments or re-scan the patient to get accurate results.
- **Use MRI-specific techniques** (such as adjusting magnetic field strength or using special coils) to improve image quality for various diagnostic needs.
4. **Patient Safety**
- **Follow radiation safety protocols** for CT scans, minimizing exposure to patients while ensuring diagnostic accuracy.
- **Ensure MRI safety**, verifying that the patient does not have any metal implants, devices, or other contraindications (e.g., pacemakers, surgical clips, metallic objects).
- **Monitor patients** for any adverse reactions, especially if contrast agents are used during CT or MRI scans.
5. **Contrast Media Administration**
- **Administer contrast agents** when necessary, ensuring proper handling, dosage, and safe injection for CT scans.
- **Ensure correct preparation and handling** of contrast media, and closely monitor patients for any allergic reactions or side effects.
6. **Documentation and Record Keeping**
- **Document patient information**, including medical history, imaging details (such as the type of scan, parameters used, and contrast agents administered), and any relevant notes about the procedure.
- **Maintain accurate records** of images and reports, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with hospital policies and regulations.
- **Store and organize images** properly in the hospital’s digital imaging system for easy retrieval by radiologists and healthcare providers.
7. **Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals**
- **Coordinate with radiologists** and other medical personnel to ensure that images meet diagnostic needs.
- **Communicate findings** to medical teams and assist in evaluating the results, especially if any issues arise with the scan (e.g., poor image quality or motion artifacts).
- **Provide post-scan care** by explaining follow-up procedures to the patient and scheduling any additional tests if needed.
8. **Maintenance and Troubleshooting of Equipment**
- **Perform routine maintenance** on CT and MRI machines, including cleaning and calibrating equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- **Troubleshoot equipment issues** and report any malfunctioning equipment to the technical or engineering team for repairs.
- **Ensure cleanliness** of the scanning area, equipment, and surroundings to maintain a sterile and safe environment.
9. **Radiation Safety (CT)**
- **Minimize radiation exposure** to patients by following ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles in CT scans.
- **Monitor radiation dosage** and ensure that the correct technique is applied for each individual patient, especially in pediatric or sensitive cases.
10. **Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations**
- **Ensure patient confidentiality** by following HIPAA and other privacy laws.
- **Follow hospital protocols** for infection control, safety, and quality standards.
- **Stay updated on regulatory guidelines** related to MRI and CT procedures, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
11. **Professional Development and Training**
- **Stay current with technological advancements** in CT and MRI technology to improve imaging techniques and enhance diagnostic outcomes.
- **Participate in ongoing education and training** to maintain certification and learn new best practices in imaging procedures and patient care.
- **Ensure adherence to industry standards** in both MRI and CT imaging for optimal patient care and diagnostic results.
12. **Emergency Response**
- **Respond to medical emergencies** during scans, particularly if a patient has an adverse reaction to contrast media or becomes unwell.
