Job Description for Blood Bank Technician
- **Education**: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology/Diploma.
- **Experience**: Prior experience in a clinical laboratory or blood bank preferred.
- **Skills**:

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with laboratory information systems and data entry.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Collect, label, and process blood donations and blood components (e.g., plasma, platelets, red cells).
- Perform blood typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and compatibility testing.
- Conduct infectious disease screening and quality control testing following established protocols.
- Ensure proper storage, inventory, and labeling of blood and blood products.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Prepare and issue blood and components for transfusion to patients as requested.
- Maintain detailed and accurate donor and patient records.
- Adhere to all safety, infection control, and quality assurance standards.
- Assist in donor recruitment, education, and counseling as needed.
- Comply with national regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., FDA, AABB, CLIA, CAP).
