- Directing aircraft on the ground: Airport ground staff may use hand signals or radio communication to direct aircraft to their assigned gates, and to instruct pilots on where to park and unload passengers and cargo.
- Monitoring the airport: Ground staff may be responsible for monitoring the airport for potential security threats, and for reporting any issues or concerns to the appropriate authorities.
