This role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2-3 days per week from an HPE office.

We are looking for Distinguished Technologist (DT) positions to lead and drive the development of the future enterprise networking products and solutions. DTs play key hands-on roles in multi-discipline teams working on new and next generation products and solutions. This includes owning product architecture, product feature definition, software design, SW development and test, and customer interaction. Projects typically involve coordination with internal and external development partners.
**_ What you’ll do:_**_ _**
- Senior level network and firmware architect to define and lead Enterprise/Campus Switch product efforts.
- Involves designing, specifying and leading the implementation of networking features.
- Includes working with product marketing, tracking industry trends, and gathering customer feedback with the intent of driving those results into a superior comprehensive network architecture/product.
- Work often involves cross-organizational interactions: Hardware, Firmware, System management, Network teams, Sales teams, Architects, other organizations, etc. to arrive at best solutions.
- Demonstrates strong domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to influence decisions of senior management, development partners and the eco system
- Develops architectures and methodologies for software systems design and development across multiple platforms
- Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with systems design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
- Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects/product roadmap and activities in the software systems design organization.
- Strong ability to negotiate and build consensus in engineering community on technical decisions
- Must excel at communication at multiple organization levels: customer, executives, ODMs & 3rd party development, and engineering teams
- Develops strategy and technology roadmaps for software systems design and development across multiple platforms and products in the Global Business Unit and company at large.
- Communicates strategy and technology roadmaps to executive staff, industry partners and customers; leverages recognized technical and business expertise to influence, guide, and shape business strategy and decision
- making at the highest organizational levels.
- Guides and mentors less
- experienced staff members to set an example of software systems design and development innovation and excellence.
- Participates in and provides input on process for selection of future technical leaders.
**_ What you need to bring:_**_ _**
- Experience designing and developing firmware for switches and/or network controllers.
- Strong Operating System experience - Linux, GreenHills, VxWorks etc
- Knowledge of ASIC architectures - e.g. Broadcom, etc
- Expert knowledge in C
- Extensive experience in overall architecture of firmware and interaction with hardware designs for products and solutions.
- Designing and integrating network solutions into overall architecture and hardware design across multiple platforms
- Mastery of advanced networking concepts - L2 (xSTP, VLAN, LACP, LLDP, TRILL), L3 (OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, VxLAN/EVPN, Tunnels, MPLS, Segment Routing), Multicast (PIM/PIM6, IGMP/MLD), IPv6, Security (RADIUS/TACACS, SSH, Access Control), ACL/QoS.
- Experience in both platform dependent and platform independent networking protocol work.
- Ability to internalize standards (IEEE, IETF) and convert into deliverables - design/code etc.
- History of innovation with multiple patents or deployed solutions in the field of software, firmware, or network design
- Experience with Network Development Tools - Sniffer, Traffic Generators, IXIA, Spirent etc
- Strong Network troubleshooting ability encompassing: OS, Network Stack, Sniffers, switches, external network.
- Strong Network troubleshooting ability
- Experience using version control system - e.g. GIT/Clearcase
- Ability to create white papers and advanced training material for solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
**_ Education and Experience:_**
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent
- 20+ years of experience
Required Domain Expertise: Enterprise networking products with expertise in L2/L3/Security
