- Diagnosing gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, liver diseases, ulcers, and cancers of the digestive system.
- Prescribing medications or therapies to treat various digestive conditions.
- Monitoring and managing long-term care for chronic conditions.
- **Procedures**:
- Performing diagnostic procedures like endoscopies (e.g., colonoscopies, upper GI endoscopy), biopsies, and liver function tests.
- Treating certain conditions via endoscopic procedures, such as removing polyps or stenting narrowed passages.
- **Collaboration**:
- Collaborating with other healthcare professionals like surgeons, nutritionists, and radiologists for comprehensive care.
- Referring patients to other specialists if needed for non-gastrointestinal issues or more complex conditions.
- **Education and Prevention**:
- Educating patients about gastrointestinal health, dietary habits, and lifestyle changes that can prevent or manage conditions.
- Conducting screenings for colon cancer and providing counseling on risk factors and preventive measures.
