- **Store appearance and maintenance**: The retail manager ensures the store is clean, well-organised and visually appealing. This includes managing displays, overseeing regular cleaning and addressing maintenance issues promptly.
- **Customer service**: They help ensure excellent customer service. They set customer service standards, resolve customer complaints and ensure staff members are trained to provide exceptional service.
- **Budgeting and financial management**: A store manager creates and manages the store's budget, monitors expenses and ensures the store meets its financial goals. They also analyse financial reports and make data-driven decisions to improve store performance.
- **Compliance and legal issues**: They ensure that the store complies with all relevant laws and regulations, such as health and safety, employment and licencing requirements. They also stay up to date with industry regulations and best practices.
- **Security and loss prevention**: Store managers implement and enforce security measures to prevent theft, fraud and other losses. This involves monitoring security systems, conducting regular audits and training staff to recognise and report suspicious activities.
