- International travel expected occasionally.

**What you’ll do**:
**Principal Accountabilities**

**Impact on the Business**
- Provide legal support to the GTRF business on transactions.
- Ensure transaction documentation, for which the jobholder is responsible, adheres to GTRF policies and procedures, to manage legal risk.
- Use agreed channels to escalate matters where necessary to ensure the business receives timely and appropriate legal support.

**How they are achieved/measured**
- GTRF transactions are supported and managed to facilitate successful and timely execution as required by GTRF senior management.
- For negotiated transactions, full adherence to GTRF policies and procedures including GTRF Legal FIM, playbooks and negotiation guidelines.
- Where necessary, matters are escalated to the local Wholesale lawyer supporting GTRF in the relevant country (unless that local lawyer has delegated the authority to liaise with the local business directly).
- Adverse consequences arising from legal issues are properly managed and mitigated and remedial action initiated in line with the materiality of the risk or issue.

**Customers / Stakeholders**
- Be proactive in the provision of legal support.
- Ensure timely escalation to, as appropriate, local GTRF Legal and Global GTRF Legal including Senior Legal Counsel - Head of GTRF GLS on any issues or complex / protracted matters.
- Ensure Global CMB Legal management, including Deputy GC GTRF are fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertise.

**How they are achieved/measured**
- Provision of legal advice that is succinct, easy to understand, and adds value by identifying the root cause of the problem and solutions.
- Evidence that the jobholder has taken the initiative, anticipated events, sought added involvement and expertise from central GTRF Legal team where required.
- Evidence that the jobholder has sought to understand the client’s needs and achieved a satisfactory conclusion.
- Regular and timely communications with more senior legal managers on legal developments in the jobholder’s area of expertise

**Leadership & Teamwork**
- As a team lead, create and maintain a motivating working environment for the team.
- Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with team members within GTRF GLS, Global CMB Legal, Wholesale lawyers globally and business departments for which the jobholder is providing legal support.
- Participate effectively as part of the Global CMB Legal function and the Global GTRF Legal team.
- Collaborate with and support GTRF GLS colleagues as appropriate.

**How they are achieved/measured**
- Regular reports to and meetings held with line management, GLS and central GTRF / CMB Legal team members.
- Provide clear communications to GTRF business on transactions.
- Maintain successful and mutually supportive working relationships with all members of GTRF and Global CMB Legal teams.
- Understand, contribute and make use of knowledge sharing and document management systems.

**Operational Effectiveness & Control**
- Comply with legal risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual and Legal FIM.
- Comply with regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk.

**How they are achieved/measured**
- Follow appropriate procedures and controls to monitor, control and mitigate legal risk in relation to the jobholder’s area of expertise

**Major Challenges**
- The jobholder will be responsible for legal support of GTRF transactions (supervised as required by Senior Legal Counsel - GTRF GLS) and must have the ability to support a range of contractual legal issues.
- The jobholder will also collaborate with lawyers globally as required. Hence the role requires strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of the structure of the HSBC Group and its values.
- Ability to adapt work style to meet varied workloads.
- Ability to prioritise workloads in terms of legal risk and commercial consideration.
- Maintain knowledge of HSBC Group operations and policies.
- Increasing ability to handle more complex tasks with less supervision.
- Ability to identify the need for further analysis and the need for a timely decision given commercial pressures
