Student Counselor

**Job Summary**:
As a Student Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in providing guidance, support, and assistance to students to enhance their academic, personal, and social development. Your primary objective will be to foster a positive and supportive environment conducive to students' overall well-being and success. This role requires a compassionate demeanor, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of student needs and challenges.
**Responsibilities**:
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students to address academic, personal, and social concerns.
- Offer guidance and support to students facing academic challenges, such as study skills, time management, and exam preparation.
- Assist students in exploring their interests, strengths, and career aspirations through career counseling and aptitude assessments.
- Conduct workshops and seminars on topics related to student development, mental health, and well-being.
- Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and parents to develop strategies to support student success and retention.
- Identify students at risk and provide appropriate interventions, referrals, and follow-up support.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in counseling practices.
- Stay informed about mental health resources, community services, and support networks available to students.
- Develop and implement programs to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the student community.
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance counseling skills and stay updated on best practices in student support services.
**Requirements**:
- Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
- State licensure or certification as a professional counselor (if required by the jurisdiction).
- Previous experience in counseling or student support services preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and empathy towards students from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and handle confidential information sensitively.
- Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and ethical guidelines.
- Familiarity with mental health issues affecting college students and intervention strategies.
- Proficiency in utilizing counseling software or databases to document sessions and track student progress.
