Research Officer

**Description**:

- Supports comprehensive research activities by assisting in effectively conducting experiments and recording data.
- Ensure efficient daily operation and maintenance of green house and/or field activities.
- Conducts all SPT experiments in GH and field by adopting procedures as required.
- Assists in large scale conversion of lines for SPT male sterility
- Assists in conducting large scale seed productions using SPT lines in field.
- Maintains Green House (GH) and its operations.
- Maintains or improves efficient daily workplace operations.
- Supervises and is accountable for assigned projects and co-ordinates experiments with other locations
- Responsible for collecting and sending leaf samples to Marker labs for analysis.

**Qualifications**:** Education and Experience**
- Master's degree in agriculture (Genetics & Plant breeding, Soil Science, Agronomy or related field in Life Sciences and minimum of 3 to 4 years of industry related experience required.)

**Competencies**
- Strong working knowledge of hybrid development
- growing plants in GH, making and hybrid seed production
- Experience in sampling plants and plant tissue for molecular and/or biochemical analysis.
- Ability to maintain complete, accurate and timely records of experimental data and procedures using Microsoft's Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience in managing greenhouse activities
- Research experimental design and execution of field trials
- Strong self-motivation and ability to initiate projects, make decisions, and effectively solve problems.
- Superior interpersonal communication and teamwork skills, record keeping and managing multiple tasks.
- Work accuracy, timeliness, and adaptability to change are essential. Capable of working outdoors in various environments
