A fitter's job is to install, adjust, or put together machinery or equipment. Their responsibilities include:

- **Reviewing plans and specifications**: Fitters review plans and specifications to determine the correct specifications for each project.
- **Using tools and machinery**: Fitters use hand and power tools to cut, shape, and fit materials like metal, wood, and composites. They also use welding equipment to fabricate components.
- **Performing maintenance**: Fitters perform maintenance checks and repairs on mechanical systems and equipment.
- **Interpreting drawings**: Fitters understand and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- **Following health and safety standards**: Fitters ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- **Communicating**: Fitters may communicate with customers and superiors
