Principal Ip Counsel

We are looking for Principal, IP Counsel to join our IP Laws team. This is an exciting opportunity to significantly contribute to the law content and workflow utilized by Clarivate proprietary products and services, including IP Lifecycle Management and Annuity systems. You will be one of the principal law research experts and collaborate closely with the law implementation and law consultant teams, and 3rd parties, including patent and trademark offices and agents, to maximize a core value of the business.

You will be part of the team responsible for the IP Law content in Clarivate by maintaining expertise in current and historical jurisdiction laws and docketing practices, including statutory actions/formalities and due dates required to obtain and maintain Intellectual Property rights in different jurisdictions around the world over the lifetime of a matter. In addition, you will also contribute to defining best practices, and IP Research workflows. The research team will execute against IP Law strategies by driving the identification, research, and validation of intellectual property laws to ensure high quality IP products and service while reducing business risk.

About You - Experience, Education, Skills, and Accomplishments
- Bachelor's degree and law degree mandatory
- 5+ years’ experience in the Intellectual Property Industry with familiarity of IP Laws/IP docketing procedures
- Strong IP legal research skills with a solid knowledge of legal search tools and strategies

It would be great if you also had...
- 5+ years’ experience in an IP Lifecycle Management or Renewal software platform, docketing practice, and IP Law calculations
- Proven ability to interpret and explain complex IP Laws
- Experience in SharePoint

What will you be doing in this role?
- Keep abreast of jurisdiction law changes, ensure timely compliance with global IP developments and continue to exploit our law content as a market differentiator.
- Follow global standards for monitoring and researching IP Legislative changes, including key handoffs. Utilize resources, legal publications, and official patent and trademark offices to identify and determine the research legislative changes and audit current country/region law repository.
- Accurately review and interpret country IP law changes and document the requirements to turn over to implementation for consumption into proprietary IP systems.
- Provide comprehensive responses to internal stakeholders on jurisdictional law questions by utilizing internal or external resources and/or liaising with agents and PTOs.
- Promote alignment in IP law content across Clarivate products/services and renewal platforms participating in pro-active audits.
- Mentor junior researchers and perform quality checks of their work product.
- Oversee and maintain IP Law content repository.
- Maintaining the legal research Sharepoint site

About the Team

Our team is responsible for providing periodic releases of IP law updates to our clients in accordance with new laws or law changes. The main purpose of this role is to validate and align Clarivate’s comprehensive IP law content while maintaining a deep understanding of current and historical IP laws and docketing practices throughout the IP lifecycle worldwide. This includes proactively monitoring internal and external sources, including legislation, which report and contain law or rule changes and managing the overall workflow to maintain best in class law content set. Subsequently, the law updates are published to customers including release notes and other related documentation. This enables customers to keep their IP portfolio up to date. This role will report to the Senior Manager, IP Counsel.

Hours of Work

Full Time with flexibility to accommodate meetings with other time zones/regions (namely US, Europe and India)
