**The Role**

As a zLinux TSM Administrator at Kyndryl, you’ll solve complex problems and identify potential future issues across the spectrum of platforms and services. You’ll be at the forefront of new technology and modernization, working with some of our biggest clients - which means some of the biggest in the world.

There’s never a typical day as a System Administrator at Kyndryl, because no two projects are alike. You’ll be managing systems data for clients and providing day-to-day solutions and security compliance. You’ll oversee a queue of assignments and work directly with technicians, prioritizing tickets to deliver the best solutions to our clients.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Implement data retention policies to manage the lifecycle of backed-up data based on organizational needs and compliance regulations.
- Use TSM’s built-in monitoring tools to track backup performance, job statuses, and system health.
- Set up alerting mechanisms to notify administrators of failures, backup issues, or resource shortages.
- Generate detailed backup and restore reports for audit purposes and to ensure data protection practices are followed.
- Regularly check logs to identify potential problems or inefficiencies in the backup and recovery process.
- Manage and configure access control and user permissions for TSM clients, ensuring that only authorized users can perform backups, restores, or configuration changes.
- Implement encryption for both backup data and transmission to ensure data security and compliance with industry standards.
- Manage encryption keys and ensure that encryption settings are correctly applied for both data at rest and data in transit.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 9+ years of experience in zLinux TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) Administrator
- Install and configure Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) software on zLinux systems.
- Set up TSM server and client configurations for optimal performance and data protection.
- Manage backup schedules to ensure that all critical data on zLinux systems is backed up regularly and successfully.
- Perform regular testing of backup processes to ensure data consistency and recovery readiness.
- Monitor and optimize backup jobs for efficiency, identifying any bottlenecks or failures.
- Configure and manage TSM’s data recovery processes, ensuring quick and reliable restoration of data in case of system failures.
- Set up and maintain storage pools, storage groups, and volumes in TSM.
- Monitor storage usage to ensure there is sufficient capacity for future data growth.
- Resolve issues related to backup jobs, storage devices, or TSM client connections.
- Work with other teams, such as system administrators or network engineers, to address root causes of issues impacting TSM performance.
