As an analytical chemist, you'll use a range of methods to investigate the chemical composition of substances.
You would be involved throughout the drug development process. This would include studying the physical or chemical properties of drug substances and formulations, with a view to determining the quality and stability of drug products.
As an analytical chemist your tasks can vary, but you'll typically need to:
- Prepare and analyse samples from various sources to provide information on compounds or quantities of compounds present.
- Use analytical techniques and instrumentation, such as gas chromatography (GC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), thin layer chromatography(TLC) to investigate chemical composition.
- Keep up to date with the latest scientific and technical trends.
- Validate methods and equipment.
- Present scientific results to relevant teams.
**Requirements**:
Minimum qualifications required are
Bachelor's of pharmacy (B.Pharma)
Masters of pharmacy (M.Pharm)
Other equivalent degrees
- You also need to be skilled in good laboratory practice (GLP) and good manufacturing practice (GMP).
- excellent written, oral and presentation skills and the ability to convey technical information to non-technical people
- creativity and the ability to use your initiative for independent work
- effective collaborative and teamworking skills
- the ability to perform tasks to quality standards in a safe environment.
Minimum 2 years of experience in Pharmaceutical industry is required.
