Introduction:
The vacancy is for an infrastructure specialist working supporting the Application Hosting Estate within PaaS Middleware.

Part of PaaS, Application Hosting is the organization which runs, builds and maintains the Bank's middleware IT infrastructure. The role is for the Application Hosting Infrastructure Specialist who is responsible for delivering middleware components within projects, maintaining the Application Hosting infrastructure and providing service support in middleware operations.

This role provides exposure to leading edge software technology and underlying platforms operating mission critical services to the group.

What will you be doing?

Infrastructure Delivery
- The implementation of simple and moderately complex changes to Application Hosting infrastructure.
- Negotiate timescales with project stakeholders to meet the business objective.
- Lead and drive solutions that meets the requirements and are compliant to Barclays Standards
- Prepare documentation that explains the technical solution clearly, to various stakeholders who may have different level of technical skills.
- Support Junior Team members on advising and recommending complex technical solutions focusing on requirements and planning to meet client needs.
- Accountable for individual results, and for the impact of the individual results on the wider Application Hosting Team.

Infrastructure Maintenance
- Maintain or enhance systems infrastructure components and services to ensure that infrastructure is in vendor supported and standards compliant state.

Service Support
- React quickly and as necessary to systems errors and service problems to minimize downtime and restore service.
- Attend incident resolution calls and be able to clearly articulate basic technical issues as seen on the systems, understand the actions required, perform the actions and then report back on the outcomes.
- identification of root cause and implementation of permanent fix.
- The team is operating a follow the sun support model, but there is a requirement to operate as part of an out of hours callout rota at the weekend delivering both planned change activity and/or resolving high severity incidents across the Middleware Estate.

What we’re looking for:

- Minimum 6 years of experience in technology

A good understanding of:

- Open-Source Application Hosting Platform (eg JBoss, Tomcat or Apache)
- IBM Application Hosting Platforms (WebSphere Application Server)
- Monitoring Tools (E.g., CA APM, Wily)
- SSL encryption and certificate management

Skills that will help you in the role:

- A good understanding of:

- Automation Tools (e.g. Chef, Nolio or Jenkins)
- Mark up languages - (HTML, XML, YAML)
- Containerization - (Dockers, Kubernetes)

A basic understanding of:

- LDAP Directory Services
- Shell and/or Python scripting skills
