Pediatrician Nephrology

The Pediatric Nephrologist is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of kidney-related diseases and disorders in infants, children, and adolescents. The role includes inpatient and outpatient care, dialysis management, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and participation in academic and quality improvement initiatives.
1. **Clinical Responsibilities**
- Evaluate and manage patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases.
- Treat conditions such as nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, congenital anomalies, and hypertension.
- Supervise and manage pediatric dialysis (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) units.
- Provide consultation services for pediatric inpatients, ICU, and emergency cases.
- Prepare and manage patients before and after kidney transplantation.
- Monitor and adjust treatment plans, including medications and fluid/electrolyte balance.
2. **Diagnostic Responsibilities**
- Order and interpret renal function tests, imaging studies (ultrasound, CT, MRI), and biopsies.
- Monitor blood pressure, urine output, and lab results to track disease progression or response to treatment.
3. **Collaboration & Coordination**
- Work with multidisciplinary teams including pediatricians, urologists, radiologists, dietitians, psychologists, social workers, and transplant coordinators.
- Participate in medical rounds, case conferences, and patient care meetings.
4. **Patient & Family Education**
- Educate patients and families on kidney diseases, treatment plans, medications, dietary restrictions, and home care.
- Provide psychological support for children and families dealing with chronic illnesses.
5. **Academic & Teaching Duties**
- Teach and mentor pediatric residents, fellows, and medical students.
- Conduct seminars, CMEs, and training sessions in nephrology.
6. **Research & Quality Improvement**
- Participate in or lead clinical research and clinical trials.
- Develop and implement protocols and guidelines for pediatric renal care.
- Contribute to hospital quality assurance and clinical audit programs.
7. **Administrative Duties**
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
- Assist in policy development related to pediatric nephrology.
- Ensure compliance with hospital regulations, infection control, and patient safety standards.
**Qualifications & Requirements**:
- **Education**: MD or DNB in Pediatrics with specialization or fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology.
- **Experience**: [1-5] years of experience in pediatric nephrology preferred.
- **Licensure**: Valid medical license and registration with the medical council.
