Ophthamlic Assistant Trainee

**Job Responsibilty**

**Patient Interaction**
- Obtain a thorough medical history from patients, including ocular and systemic health details.
- Explain procedures and tests to patients, addressing any questions or concerns.
- Assist patients in adjusting to the examination room and prepare them for testing or examinations.
- Perform basic tests such as visual acuity, color vision, peripheral vision, and ocular pressure tests.
- Assist ophthalmologists or optometrists with more advanced diagnostic procedures, including retinal imaging, OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), and corneal topography.
- Accurately document patient histories, exam results, and test findings in electronic health records (EHR).
- Ensure that all records are complete, up-to-date, and confidential.
- Clean and sterilize ophthalmic instruments and equipment according to infection control protocols.
- Ensure proper storage and maintenance of ophthalmic tools and supplies.
- Learn to identify issues with equipment and report maintenance needs.
- Observe and, in some cases, assist during minor ophthalmic procedures such as laser treatments, injections, and biopsies (under supervision).
- Schedule follow-up appointments for patients, ensuring they are aware of post-examination or post-procedure instructions.
- Provide patients with educational materials related to eye care, surgical procedures, or treatments as instructed by the ophthalmologist.

**Education**
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Some post-secondary education in health sciences or a related field is preferred.
