An Ophthalmic Assistant provides crucial support to ophthalmologists and optometrists, performing a range of tasks to ensure patient care and smooth clinic operations. They assist with patient preparation for exams and surgeries, conduct diagnostic tests, manage patient records, and may even administer medications under the supervision of the physician. Key Responsibilities of an Ophthalmic Assistant: Patient Preparation: Gathering patient medical histories, performing diagnostic tests like visual acuity and visual field testing, and preparing patients for examinations and procedures. Assisting with Procedures: Assisting ophthalmologists and optometrists during appointments, surgeries, and other procedures. Diagnostic Testing: Performing various ophthalmic tests such as lensometry, refractometry, and tonometry. Patient Education: Providing clear and concise instructions to patients regarding medications, treatments, and post-operative care. Record Keeping: Maintaining and updating accurate patient records and charts. Clinic Management: Assisting with the organization and upkeep of the clinic, including inventory management and instrument sterilization. Other Duties: May include answering phones, scheduling appointments, and other administrative tasks. Skills and Qualifications: Strong organizational and communication skills are essential. Ability to perform ophthalmic tests and procedures with accuracy and precision. Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology and medical procedures. Comfort working in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. Empathy and patience when interacting with patients. Formal training in an ophthalmic assistant program or equivalent experience is often required.

Pay: ₹12,090.16 - ₹19,441.23 per month
