**Job Summary**:
**Key Responsibilities: Colony Management & Breeding**:
- Design and implement breeding strategies for SPF like **C57BL/6, BALB/c, and other relevant strains** to ensure genetic purity and health.
- Monitor reproductive performance, manage genetic drift, and optimize breeding efficiency.
- Perform pedigree analysis and genetic validation of colonies.
- Maintain detailed records of breeding, genetic lineage, and health parameters.
**Animal Health & Welfare**:
- Oversee the health monitoring program, ensuring the SPF status is maintained.
- Diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases while adhering to GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and AAALAC guidelines.
- Implement biosecurity measures to prevent contamination and pathogen entry.
- Provide veterinary care, including routine health checks, quarantine protocols, and necropsies.
**Regulatory Compliance & Documentation**:
- Ensure adherence to **CPCSEA, AAALAC, and GLP** guidelines for laboratory animal care and use.
- Prepare and maintain all necessary regulatory documentation, including health reports, breeding records, and SOPs.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.
**Facility & Team Management**:
- Supervise animal care technicians and provide training on proper handling, breeding, and health monitoring.
- Coordinate with researchers, facility managers, and regulatory bodies to support ongoing studies.
- Monitor environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, air exchange) to maintain optimal SPF conditions.
**Research & Development**:
- Work closely with research teams to develop custom breeding programs, including **DIO (Diet-Induced Obesity) models** and genetically modified rodents.
- Stay updated with advancements in animal genetics and breeding technologies.
**Qualifications & Requirements**:
- **MVSc in Animal Genetics and Breeding** from a recognized institution.
- Minimum **1-5 years of experience** in SPF rodent breeding and veterinary care.
- In-depth knowledge of **reproductive biology, genetics, and health management of laboratory rodents**.
- Familiarity with **GLP, AAALAC, CPCSEA, and other regulatory standards**.
- Experience in **SPF barrier management and biosecurity practices**.
- Strong record-keeping and data management skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to coordinate with teams.
**Preferred Skills**:
- Experience in **transgenic/gene-edited rodent models**.
- Knowledge of microbiological and serological health screening techniques.
- Understanding of high-fat diet models and their implications in research.
- Experience working in a **CRO (Contract Research Organization)** or **preclinical research facility** is an advantage.
