The Duty Medical Officer (DMO) is responsible for providing high-quality medical care to patients in a healthcare facility. This includes diagnosing and treating illnesses, managing patient care, and ensuring smooth operation of the medical unit during their shift.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Patient Care**:
- Conduct thorough examinations of patients and evaluate their health conditions.
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions.
- Prescribe and administer medications, treatments, and other medical procedures.
- Monitor and report on patients' progress and any significant changes in their condition.
- Provide emergency care and make decisions regarding immediate patient needs.
- **Medical Procedures**:
- Perform minor surgical procedures and assist in major surgeries when required.
- Administer vaccinations and injections.
- Conduct and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures.
- **Coordination and Communication**:
- Collaborate with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, explaining diagnoses and treatments.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care in medical records.
- **Administrative Duties**:
- Oversee the operations of the medical unit during their shift.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and hospital policies.
- Manage the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
- Supervise and support junior medical staff and trainees.
- **Emergency Response**:
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
- Stabilize patients and arrange for their transfer to specialized units if necessary.
- Lead and participate in resuscitation and other emergency procedures.
- **Quality Assurance**:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Ensure high standards of patient care and safety are maintained.
- Address and resolve any patient complaints or issues promptly and professionally.
**Qualifications**:
- **Education**: MBBS from a recognized institution.
- **Experience**: Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience, preferably in an emergency or critical care setting.
- **Licensure**: Valid medical license to practice.
- **Certifications**: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.
