An operating theatre technician (DOTT) is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and management of an operating room and the equipment and patients within it:

- **Preparing the operating room**: Ensuring the operating room is clean, functional, and ready for surgery
- **Maintaining equipment**: Cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical equipment and instruments
- **Managing supplies**: Ordering and maintaining supplies, and ensuring there is a regular supply of oxygen and suction
- **Assisting with patients**: Helping patients get to and from the operating room, and attending to their needs during surgery
- **Assisting the surgical team**: Helping the surgeon during the procedure, and assisting the nursing staff with patient safety
- **Cleaning up**: Cleaning and disinfecting the operating room after surgery, and disposing of any waste
- **Reporting issues**: Reporting any defective equipment or instruments to the OT in charge
- **Monitoring equipment**: Monitoring equipment and transferring instruments to the surgeon during surgery
- **Checking records**: Checking patient medical charts and records for inaccuracies before surgery
- **Assisting with anaesthesia**: Preparing the anaesthesia location, troubleshooting equipment, and assisting with patient monitoring
- **Maintaining records**: Maintaining operation theater records
- **Fumigating**: Fumigating the operating theater and documenting it
- **Maintaining temperature and humidity**: Maintaining the operating theater temperature and humidity as per protocols
