Internship - Policy Team

**Week 1: Part A: Orientation, Initial Research and Policy Tracking**
- **Introduction to SLF & Road Safety Policies**: Briefing on SLF’s policy work, key focus areas, and current priorities.
- **Understanding the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) & Recent Amendments**: Overview of key provisions, recent amendments, and their implications.
- **Understanding Key Concepts on Road Safety and Trauma Care**:Summarising key concepts from the WHO Reports on key risk factors and preparing a repository.

**Part B: Policy Tracking and Development**
- **Policy & Media Tracking - Ongoing**:

- Track and summarize **media articles** related to road safety and trauma care.
- Track **government notifications & legal updates** relevant to road safety (update the internal tracker).
- Track Supreme Court and High Court cases related to road safety and emergency care especially Rajseekaran Case and other key road safety cases - Prepare summary of the Judgement and Orders.
- **Stakeholder Mapping**:

- Identify and map **MPs and key government departments in the top 5 states/UTs** based on road safety records.
- **Introduction to ZFC & ZFD (Zero Fatality Corridor & Zero Fatality District Initiatives)**:

- Read SLF’s reports on ZFC and ZFD and prepare a **1-page internal briefing note on legal implementation of the ZFS concepts**.

**Week 1 Deliverables**:

- Note on Key provisions of the MV Act, and brief note on the key road safety-related risk factors.
- Update Internal Trackers - Media, Parliamentary, MoRTH Notifications, State-level Notifications, and Legal Cases.
- Prepare a Stakeholder Mapping on spreadsheet/Update the MP stakeholder mapping (State-wise).

**Week 2: Research & Drafting Briefs**
- **State/District-Wise Factsheets (2022 Data)**:

- Compile key road safety statistics for selected states/districts and Develop a 2-page state-level factsheet based on the existing template.
- Develop Trauma Factsheet for States/UTs.

**Deliverable**:

- Designed Factsheets for all 36 States/UTs of India
- District-wise factsheets for key districts with road crash fatalities.
- **Detailed Study on Trauma Care Framework in India - State-level**:

- Conduct research on the status of trauma care facilities in India with a focus on State Government initiatives that have been introduced. The States can be divided between them
- Good Samaritan Law across various jurisdictions around the world.

**Deliverable**:

- Prepare a tracker with State-wise government initiatives on Trauma care/Road Safety
- **Comparative research** on Internation Good Samaritan Law framework.
- **Drafting Internal Brief Notes**:

- Prepare **brief noted on Road Safety Technologies - ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), Warning Systems and other such systems implemented internationally** and its role in improving road safety.
- Brief notes to deep dive into recent policy developments
- Identify **other emerging technologies** that can improve road safety in India.

**Deliverables**:

- Brief research notes on relevant topics/issues to form a repository

**Week 3: Policy & Parliamentary Work**
- **Parliamentary Engagement Preparation**:

- Track and analyze **questions raised in Parliament** related to road safety and trauma care.
- Draft potential **themes for questions MPs can ask** in upcoming sessions on road safety and trauma care.
- Prepare Parliamentary Engagement Kits and support in the work.

**Deliverables**:

- Parliamentary Tracker with questions, answers, links, and key developments;
- Draft themes for Parliamentary engagement on road safety and emergency care.

**Week 4: Consolidation & Final Assignments**
- **Update all the trackers to date.**

**Deliverable**:Finalized trackers with up-to-date information
- **ZFD and ZFC-related work -**:

- **Intern Research Paper Assignment/ Finalizing Research Papers & Presentations**:

- Each intern chooses a **topic of their interest** (related to road safety or trauma care).
- Develop a structured outline and conduct background research.
- Interns submit their **3-5 page research papers**.
- Present their findings to the Policy Team.

**Deliverable: Research paper on road safety/trauma care in India, including structured outline, background research, and presentation.**

Pay: ₹4,000.00 - ₹5,000.00 per month

- Monday to Friday

Work Location: In person
