Textile designers, also known as têxtile geometricians, create the look and structure of fabrics by designing patterns and prints for clothing, home furnishings, and other goods. Their responsibilities include: Researching: Analyzing current trends, properties of new fabrics, and client instructions Creating: Sketches, renderings, and colorways using computer-aided design (CAD) software Sourcing: Selecting fabrics and managing suppliers Developing: Coordinating with other departments to create samples, test fabrics, and oversee production Monitoring: Ensuring quality standards are met and products meet specifications Marketing: Selling products online, at craft fairs, or through retail outlets Textile designers may specialize in interiors or clothing and work for small têxtile industries, multinational manufacturers, design practices, or interior design companies. Some may also work freelance.
